Lauren Williams is Cofounder, CEO, and Editor-in-Chief of Capital B, a start-up nonprofit news organization for Black Americans. She was most recently SVP and Editor in Chief of Vox, where she managed all editorial and business operations for the explanatory news network, including one of YouTube’s largest news channels (with 9 million subscribers); more than a dozen podcasts, and a TV operation anchored by the Netflix franchise Explained. Prior to becoming editor-in-chief of Vox, Lauren served as Executive Editor and Managing Editor. Before joining Vox, Lauren was an editor at Mother Jones and Deputy Editor of The Root. She lives in Arlington, VA, with her husband and two children.
Bina Venkataraman is the editorial page editor of The Boston Globe. She leads the Globe's Editorial Board and oversees its Opinion section. She previously taught in MIT's program on science, technology and society, directed policy initiatives at the Broad Institute of Harvard & MIT and served as senior advisor for climate change innovation in the Obama White House. Prior to that, she was a reporter for the Metro and Health/Science sections of the Globe and for the science desk of The New York Times. She also served on the Globe Editorial Board in 2009-2010. She is the author of The Optimist's Telescope: Thinking Ahead in a Reckless Age, named one of Amazon's best books on business and leadership of 2019. Her first story for the Globe was a travel article about the Mekong River she dispatched while living in Vietnam.
